My great Canadian road trip began a few days ago. I am making my way slowly from Edmonton to Toronto and back again, making stops to see friends, new places, make art, take a shit ton of photos and scour the areas for tasty coffee.
The first major stop is at the Falcon Trails Resort, which is very close to the Ontario border, but still in Manitoba
Jason booked it from work and met me in Brandon Manitoba, then we spent the night with some friends, got groceries and other supplies for four days and made our way to Falcon Lake near Whiteshell Provincial Park. I can't hog all the fun things, now can I
We have this gorgeous cabin, with a lake view (and a hot tub!) all to ourselves for four days. Whilst curled up bygthe wood burning stove after a hike or soak in the hot tub, I have been journaling, making drawings and taking photos so I can leave some work behind when I go. It's a pretty sweet trade! Stay in a beautiful place, make art, make some new friends, and leave some of your creations behind.
I have taken way too many pictures of trees, but they have been the inspiration for some of the drawings I have made so far, and will be further inspiration for some acrylic paintings when I get back to the studio.
These are the drawings I have made so far that they can decide to keep (or not). The last photo is a drawing in progress that reminds me of a topographical map. It's the view of the forest from the loft bedroom window.
These are some of the drawings now populating my travel journal:
I brought along my oil paints also, so I hope to make some oil sketches on this residency, and trip, as well.
I've been posting photos on IG as the wafting reception permits, so you can see more of the trip if you wish.
Oh! Also, next month Falcon Trails Resort will also be carrying a limited number of my Christmas cards for purchase in the Welcome Centre.
Well, those unfinished drawings won't draw themselves, and there is a glass of wine with my name on it near a cozy wood burning stove on this chilly afternoon, so back I go to it.
