Fresh snow makes everything prettier; the light, the landscape. Everything looks much cleaner and properly winter-ish now. This is how January is supposed to look here. Not with tufts of grass peeking out at the sidewalk edges or at the base of trees around the neighborhood.
It's also a lazy watercolorists' painting dream:
I say this because in painting, it's one of the few 'rules' that I know of. There is no such thing as white watercolor, so anything you want to be white you either have to mask the space (with masking fluid or tape) or paint around it, leaving the white paper exposed.
Well, today is the day for the lazy watercolorist to paint a landscape. As long as it's daytime. Snow has some uses.
