so close and yet...

I had grand visions of finishing this painting tonight and posting it. These grand visions could indeed be confused with delusions of grandeur with the way my morning went. I double checked my departure and arrival times for my Newfoundland trip and found out I come home on September 10th...not the 9th. Well shit! The cafe schedule had been posted for the week that included the 10th...and I was on it! Oops. Better finding out now and getting it fixed than having co-workers wonder where the hell I am. Then I started spilling things at home, but the rest of the day progressed along better than the awkward morning. The cafe was steady. I sold a painting to someone in St. John's NL and I just HAPPEN to be flying in there on Thursday....so I might as well deliver the painting in person while I'm in town. You know, save on the shipping. Then I got home from the cafe and needed to get a training run in. I'm running a 10K road race at the end of September. The Melissa's Road Race in Banff. Then I poured a glass of wine, lay the canvas on the floor of my studio so I could draw on it....and didn't finish it. But I made some stellar progress.

See? The green is no longer random, unidentifiable blogs of dry brushed....erm....green. I inked in the branches and some of the needles of the pine. There is still light, and snow and pine cones to add...and THEN it's finished. But I'm tired. I was up at 7am working on this painting while someone awesome cooked me a delicious french toast breakfast. Then I open the cafe in the morning and pack for Newfoundland in the evening....and hand off my dog to my friend's. The night before I leave for my yearly east coast trip is usually the hardest...because the departing flight is so early so I need to drop off my dog to my friend's who look after him the night before. Thankfully I have the prospect of finishing this tree painting before I go to distract me from the fact that Gershwin is not curled up on the bed waiting for me.

And now for sleep...
