It's been a good Saturday for playing around. I found an instax photo tucked away in my travel pack from a dog walk this past fall. I had forgotten about this photo.

So I decided it was going to inspire today's watercolour illustration. There is a lot going on in this little photo. Many colourful layers, delicate lines, brilliant reds and bits of purple and green.

This could take forever if you too wrapped up in the detail.

It could also turn into a bloody mess if you don't sort it out somehow.

I broke out some watercolour brushes I hadn't used in quite awhile. I employed my hair dryer to aid in speeding up the drying process of the mulitude of layers this illustration has. I used masking fluid for some of the branches, and then added later branches and definition to some of the leaves with a white gel pen.

I hope you get time to play at things this weekend.
