Unfamiliar territory

"Ross" acrylic on canvas, 8" x 10"

I'm pretty good with a variety of media, and I've painted some interesting subjects. One thing I haven't painted a lot of, is portraits.

This is my second ever portrait....that I've painted.

The first portrait I painted was one of me with my glasses off. I figured a self-portrait was a safe first bet because if it didn't turn out well, I wouldn't be offended. (I painted over it last year, so let's not talk about it anymore.) I've drawn lots of portraits and I'm quite comfortable with drawing faces, but painting them is another matter. There are these cool tones and warm tones...and no real area where one stops and the other starts. Not if you are trying to do a fairly realistic portrait. It is something I would like to practice more and get better at. But considering today's painting is only my SECOND go...I'm feeling pretty good about it, and brave enough to share with you.

Plus, I already warned Ross...so I'm pretty sure he's ok with it too. So this is my friend Ross. He's a wonderful guitarist and singer/songwriter, and like most of my close friends...is very passionate about what he does. He's also very photogenic and has great taste in art.

So....there you go.
